Do you wake up every day dreading what comes next and worrying about all the problems you have or do you get up everyday and feel energized just thinking about all the possibilities and opportunities? moneyWe measure success by what we have. The true measure of success is not being fixated on how big or how many possessions you have, it is about enjoying the journey and loving the significant people we want to share our experiences.

Most people succeed or fail for the same reasons. How you react to events that happen define who you are. You can’t reach your goal unless you actually have one. You must know what your goal is and plan a strategy to get to that goal. Your life can easily become a series of doing things that mentally allow you to indefinitely postpone establishing any real goals. From high school you go to college. In college you take several classes, not aiming specifically toward anything. You take jobs based on what pays more, not considering if you like working there, if you are learning anything, if you are moving in the direction of accomplishing anything you want, but wait, you don’t know if these things are leading up to what you want because you haven’t said what you want. You move clear across the country because you get a few more company perks, never asking yourself to make a conscious decision about your future. You allow circumstances to dictate your life.

Not only is this depressing, but you fail to acknowledge what is happening to you. You meet the love of your life and live together eventually drifting into marriage and children. You don’t actually make a decision to do any of these things, you allow circumstances around you to decide for you. If you never declare what you want, you never have to decide what to do or how to do it. You can’t fail because there is no base line to measure up to anything or anyone. The road to failure is due to never actually starting.

The real reason Harvard graduates make so much more money is because these are people who are focused, decisive, and driven with a passion about their specialty. You do not have to be a Harvard graduate to be successful. In fact if you pay attention, you will remember the incredible success of dozens of people who dropped out of high school or college to follow their dream. It is out of sheer determination, hard work, perseverance and never giving up that made these people winners. They made a decision to succeed and they do.

Stop what you are doing right this minute and ask yourself if you are living the life you want. If you are, great. If you never even thought about any of these things, it’s not too late. It doesn’t matter how old you are, the state of your health, your gender, your relationships, or your job. It really is as easy as this; look at your life situation and figure out what is important to you. Decide if it’s important enough to do something to change your life and get what you want, Decide you are worthy of achieving any goal you set. The sooner you start, the sooner you will get there.
